Leaving Japan, already overseas, or managing Japanese property from abroad? We assess whether we can assist with tax representative appointment, agreed notice handling and Japanese tax filing.
English communication is by email and chat only. Start with a free scope check and quote.
We can assess support whether or not you keep property in Japan.
Review the agreed filing package and its national tax representative support.
Review the sale filing service and the national tax representative work included in its scope.
Fixed asset and other local tax procedures depend on the authority and tax type. Local tax notice handling is separately quoted.
What We Do as Your Tax Representative
Prepare and submit the agreed tax representative notification forms.
Receive specified notices, record the issuing authority and deadline, and confirm facts relevant to agreed annual handling.
Share notice information and explain tax payment methods and necessary steps within the agreed scope. English support is provided by email and chat only. Filing, calculations, advice and substantive responses need an agreed scope.
You remain responsible for filing, paying tax, and providing accurate information. Appointment does not transfer your tax obligations.
Standard National-Tax Fee and Scope
For a standard national-tax case, Tax Representative Setup and Annual Tax Notice Handling is JPY 115,500 for the first year (JPY 105,000 plus consumption tax where applicable), including setup and one year of agreed notice handling. Renewal is JPY 69,300 per year (JPY 63,000 plus consumption tax where applicable). Local tax notice handling is quoted separately. See our Fees page for standard conditions and details.
The notice-handling-only fee does not include tax return preparation or responses to tax authorities. Rental filing and property sale packages include the national tax representative work stated in their scope. We confirm the management period and any additional work in the quote; a paid written review is not a prerequisite for every case.
Departure-Year Package: Salary and Foreign Insurance
This package is for an individual leaving Japan who needs one year's salary return and analysis of one foreign life insurance contract. It includes the necessary national tax representative appointment and agreed notice handling for a specified period.
Basic package: JPY 231,000 including 10% consumption tax (JPY 210,000 before tax). It includes an initial assessment of your spouse's procedures and residence tax arrangements. Actual spouse filings or appointments, additional local tax procedures and local notice handling are separately quoted.
If agreed and available, one refund receipt and transfer to your own overseas bank account adds JPY 57,750 including 10% consumption tax (JPY 52,500 before tax): total JPY 288,750 including 10% consumption tax (JPY 262,500 before tax), plus bank and currency conversion costs. A refund is not guaranteed.
These are standard-case fees, subject to the records and analysis required. We confirm the management period, scope, applicable consumption tax treatment and total fee before engagement. See the departure package conditions and refund arrangements, or request a free scope check and quote.
Other departure situations are assessed according to the work required. You do not need to own property in Japan to request a free scope check and quote.
Why Appoint a Certified Public Tax Accountant (Zeirishi)?
A tax representative in Japan does not have to be a Certified Public Tax Accountant (Zeirishi). Japanese law limits tax representation, tax document preparation, and tax consultation to zeirishi, tax accountant corporations, and certain notified attorneys or attorney corporations.
If your representative cannot provide these services, you may need another specialist when filing becomes necessary. Where we agree the scope in writing, Kudan Partners may provide tax consultation, tax return preparation, and support in responding to tax offices or local governments. This can give you one point of contact from notices through filing.

Appoint a Tax Representative in Japan
The Free Eligibility Check includes a free scope check and quote based on basic, non-sensitive information. A paid written review is not required for a standard quote. Tax advice, detailed calculations, and document review are separate paid work agreed in advance. An optional Initial Written Case Review is JPY 80,850 (JPY 73,500 plus consumption tax where applicable). A Complex Written Case Review starts from JPY 115,500 (JPY 105,000 plus consumption tax where applicable). A paid review starts only after you accept its scope, fee, and payment terms.
If you engage us for an eligible annual service within 90 days after the written review is completed, we credit the full Initial Written Case Review or Complex Written Case Review fee actually paid against the first-year fee. Eligible annual services are national tax representative and notice handling, local fixed asset tax notice support, combined national and local tax notice handling, and annual rental income tax return filing, including the rental filing and national tax representative package. This credit does not apply to one-time property sale tax filing, even when that package includes tax representative work.
